The ‘chuggers’ (aka ‘charity muggers’) I find singularly annoying on the central London landscape. To those unfamiliar, a ‘chugger’ is a bright, young (student type) whose sole role in life is to piss off the unassuming London office worker. They will walk directly in front of you and pull silly stunts to get your attention – including following you up the street.
Their aim is to sign you up to a direct debit agreement to the charity they represent. They employ a similar tack to double glazing salesmen and are f****ing annoying. 10 years in London and still they annoy me to my core. I shoot them daggers when they try and stop me and ignore them when they start talking to me.
I’m all for charity. Give me a bucket and I’ll throw decent amounts of money in. But the ‘chugger’ antics annoy me to the power of 10. Added to that, their sales organisation takes a large % of whatever the unassuming person signs up to – yet another reason I find them so abhorrent.
