High above the desert

You know those scenes in The English Patient during which they fly low over the Egyptian desert, in a bi-plane? Wonderful scenes from a favourite movie. That’s what I was reminded of as I looked down upon what is basically an ‘ocean floor’ of sand and rock – completely barren – for as far as the eye can see.

This was last week on a 5 ½ hour flight from London to Luxor. That whole part of the world is basically just a giant desert (the Sahara) with the exception of the Nile delta, various oases and coastal cities. It has a certain stark beauty.

  1. A camera I suspect, mum !
Seriously though, I usually find plane windows are so dirty that decent photography is impossible. Well done, M.
(Maybe they actually clean the windows in First Class ;-))
